Blood, why do we love it? Why do we feel like we need to be covered in it every Halloween? Is it because there’s something wrong with us on some odd underlying subconscious level? Nah! It’s just fun!
That’s right! Sanguine or Blood as you and I would refer to it is not only what us humans have, but its what the undead crave. They need it, so if we are going to portray them, then we need it too! Sure it’s also fun to hear those tasty screams of terror, when some unsuspecting viewer catches a glimpse of you covered in the shiny red life liquid. So in this article we’re going to provide a few good-ole home-made blood recipes for you.
Why? Because buying the “Professional” blood or Stage Blood that you will find at the Halloween store is expensive and just not worth it! So what we want to do here is provide you with a few blood recipes which you can make on the cheap at home and then have you tell us which one worked best, or if you have an easy recipe share with us by posting a comment.
Corn-Syrup Blood
- Combine 1 part water with 3 parts corn syrup.
- Add red food coloring and mix gently by shaking or stirring.
Continue adding drops until the shade resembles that of real blood.
(Add a small amount of blue food coloring to achieve a more realistic shade.) - Add a thickener.
- Dry thickener – Add sifted flour or corn starch to your mixture, and gently mix it all again.
You may get small lumps forming at the top of the mixture.
Wait about a minute and they will float to the top where you can remove them. - Wet thickener – Stir in chocolate syrup until the desired consistency is reached.
It will also add a realistic brown tone to the blood.
- Dry thickener – Add sifted flour or corn starch to your mixture, and gently mix it all again.
- Let the mixture sit for ten minutes in a warm environment. This will give it some time to thicken. And then you can freak people out with it, it is a lot of fun. Note: this recipe yields blood that is very sticky initially, especially in hair.
Budget Blood
Plain Flour, Water, Red Food Coloring, 1 tsp. of Coffee
- Boil the water on the stove
- sieve in the flour
making sure you get ALL of the lumps out.
The quantity of ingredients aren’t important, it just depends on how much you want.
Once you have the flour mixed nicely into the water it should look nice and thick. - Next, add the red food coloring.
You will notice that it’s a ghastly, bright red colour but don’t worry this is why we add the coffee. - Add Coffee.
It is important that when you add the coffee to make sure the mixture is hot, otherwise it wont dissolve.
Palmolive Blood
You can also make fake blood with Palmolive dish soap.
(Seems like this would be super runny, but try it out and let us know.)
- Pour Palmolive Dish Soap into container (bowl, jug etc…)
The amount depends on how much blood you want! - Add red berry powered Kool-Aid, and mix.
Realistic Recipe
2/3 c. Corn Syrup
1/3 c. Warm Water
5 Tbsp Corn Starch
4 tsp red food coloring
1 Tbsp Powdered Cocoa
2 drops of green or yellow food coloring
Mix the corn starch with the water in a large mixing bowl.
Stir in the corn syrup.
Add the food coloring slowly and make sure to check for color.
